Job summary

Grainger GTG internship in downtown Chicago is a 10-week paid program where interns work across teams such as Product Engineering, Cybersecurity, Applied Machine Learning, User Experience, and more to help build the technology that keeps Grainger and its customers moving.

As a User Experience Design Intern, you will work with a Lead UX Designer to execute designs and learn how customer-facing experiences and employee tools are shaped by the UX team.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a related field with expected graduation 2027–2028.
• Understanding of design, usability, accessibility, and user-centered research.
• Interest in internal tools that help Grainger customers and teams.
• Proficiency with wireframes, prototypes, or design tools; Figma preferred.
• Strong written, verbal, visual communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to plan, execute work, and explain rationale to others.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally with designers, researchers, PMs, engineers.

Responsibilities

• Work alongside UX designers on deliverables for customer-facing experiences and employee tools.
• Join discussions with users, stakeholders, product managers, researchers, and engineers to gather needs.
• Attend user feedback sessions to identify opportunities to improve the experience.
• Translate insights into wireframes, prototypes, or design concepts and flows.
• Explore AI-enabled workflows and modern design tools to move teams forward.
• Present design rationale through critiques, presentations, and documentation.
• Network with the broader UX team and cross‑functional partners.
• Demonstrate ownership, curiosity, and thoughtful decision‑making as part of the team.
• Present work and learnings to technology leaders at internship end.
