Job summary

Selective Insurance in Scottsdale invites undergraduates to join the Ignite Internship program this summer. The 11-week, full-time experience offers exposure to the underwriting department and a path into the insurance industry.

As an Underwriting Intern, you'll learn risk assessment, cash management support tasks, and collaboration with teams. Candidates should be self-starters with strong communication, and be pursuing an applicable degree.

Qualifications

• Must be a self-starter with the ability to take direction and follow instructions.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment and perform under pressure.
• Must be able to multitask successfully.
• Proficient PC skills: Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Candidates should be working towards an applicable degree.
• Relevant classroom experience in Accounting, Actuary, Audit, Bonds, Claims, Finance, IT, Marketing and/or Underwriting preferred.
• Presentation skills and attention to detail a plus.
• Desire to work for Selective Insurance after graduation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Learn about Selective’s history, mission and operations.
• Acquire and apply skills to achieve business goals in underwriting and related areas.
• Support daily cash balances and cash forecasting tasks.
• Assist in uploading daily/monthly journal entries to the general ledger.
• Prepare monthly cash analysis and maintain SOX documentation.
• Develop and maintain strong customer relationships and respond to requests.
• Demonstrate urgency and commitment to business goals.
• Communicate facts clearly in written and verbal form.
