Job summary

Brooksource is seeking a Technical Writer to support application development and GIS/engineering teams in a hybrid Birmingham, AL role. You will document technical processes and systems, create new documentation from scratch, and improve existing materials.

The role requires self-motivation, strong communication, and the ability to translate complex concepts for diverse stakeholders. You will interview subject matter experts, establish documentation standards, and work with Jira to organize

Qualifications

3–5 years of experience in technical writing or related field.
Ability to independently gather information and produce high-quality documentation.
Strong written and verbal communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Experience documenting processes, workflows, systems or procedures.
Ability to work across multiple technical subject areas and learn quickly.

Responsibilities

Partner with application development, GIS, engineering, and technical teams to understand systems, workflows, and business processes.
Create, maintain, and modernize technical documentation and guides.
Review and update existing documentation for clarity and consistency.
Develop documentation from scratch for teams with limited formal docs.
Interview SMEs and translate complex concepts into user-friendly docs.
Identify documentation gaps and improve processes and standards.
Establish and maintain templates, standards, and best practices.
Collaborate with project teams to understand requirements and delivery processes.
Leverage Jira and other tools to gather and organize information.
Take ownership of initiatives with limited direction.
