Job summary

WSP is seeking a Junior Substation Designer for our Minneapolis, MN office to support the Power & Energy Substation Team. You will participate in local design activities, producing basic to moderate designs and specifications for power delivery infrastructure.

On-site or hybrid work arrangements are available; this role is not fully remote. The ideal candidate has strong drafting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with engineers and cross-functional teams to deliver

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Minimum 3 years post‑education experience in design support.
• Familiar with drafting and design support principles and methods.
• Knowledge of codes, regulations, and record-keeping requirements.
• Ability to learn new techniques and work with engineers independently or in a team.
• Strong communication and time management skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with collecting and analyzing data from substation sites and drawings.
• Work with engineers to resolve design details and prepare drawings.
• Provide technical design assistance with proper illustration and calculations.
• Verify calculations, interpretations of plans, and resolve discrepancies.
• Collaborate with electrical, structural, and civil disciplines on projects.
