Job summary

WSP is seeking a Substation Drafter for our Burnsville, MN office to support the Power Delivery Substation Team on diverse projects. The role emphasizes CAD design, technical accuracy, and collaboration with engineers to produce plans and specifications for planning, transportation, and infrastructure.

The ideal candidate has strong CAD skills (AutoCAD and MicroStation), experience in drafting and design support, and the ability to work in a hybrid or in-office setting with occasional remote

Qualifications

• High School Diploma is required.
• 7+ years of relevant post-education drafting and design support experience.
• Knowledge of drafting principles, codes, regulations, and record-keeping requirements.
• Ability to perform geometric and mathematical calculations and interpret plans and specs.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Collect, compile, and analyze data from sites, surveys, blueprints, schematics, and drawings to support drafting and design.
• Assist with drafting tasks for substation projects, including physical and civil layouts and electrical schematics.
• Use CAD software (AutoCAD and MicroStation) to prepare detailed substation drawings and layouts.
• Ensure designs meet standards, accuracy, and feasibility with proper dimensions and materials.
• Verify calculations and interpretations, escalate issues, and coordinate with engineers and cross-functional teams.
• Prepare multiple design versions for review and ensure compliance with contract requirements.
• Collaborate with engineers and other professionals during project phases and tasks.
• Adhere to company policies, safety rules, and ethical guidelines.
