Job summary

Sun Life U.S. is hiring a Senior Manager to lead the Stop Loss Underwriting team across multiple sites. You will drive daily operations, manage workloads, and ensure high performance through coaching and strong decision-making within underwriting guidelines.

The role requires 5+ years in Medical Stop Loss, exceptional leadership, and collaboration with Underwriting and Sales. A hybrid work model supports collaboration and flexibility, with competitive compensation and benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with 5+ years in Medical Stop Loss or business operations.
• Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills across stakeholders.
• Solid operational foundation: workload management, quality, and process improvement.
• Experience leading, supervising, or acting as a technical lead for an operations team.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operations of the Medical Stop Loss manual underwriting team, assigning workloads and managing rush requests.
• Collaborate with senior Underwriting and Sales leaders to align work with guidelines and partner expectations.
• Lead interviewing, selection, and onboarding of Manual Underwriters and temporary staff.
• Provide ongoing training, coaching, and mentoring for new hires and temp resources; update policies as needed.
• Implement underwriting process improvements identified through QC reviews.
• Build a high-performing, engaged team by setting expectations and developing plans for improvement.
• Promote compliant, consistent underwriting practices across the team.
• Support Training and Development to strengthen underwriting knowledge and career growth.
• Ensure guideline adherence and sound independent decision-making.
