Job summary

Tarte Inc. is seeking a hands-on Shopify Developer in New York City. The role covers building and maintaining custom Shopify themes, implementing features from requirements to release, and optimizing performance.

You will work across teams on promotions, search, and integrations while staying current with AI-assisted tooling. You will collaborate with Engineering, Design, Product, Merchandising, Marketing, and Operations to shape the customer experience and enable scalable ecommerce solutions

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Shopify development experience, preferably with Shopify Plus and a DTC ecommerce brand.
• Strong proficiency in Shopify Liquid, HTML5, CSS3/SCSS, and modern JavaScript (ES6+).
• Experience with Shopify Online Store 2.0, metafields, metaobjects, theme customization, and Shopify Admin/Storefront APIs (GraphQL).
• Ability to build reusable frontend components, implement complex shopping logic, and integrate third‑party services using REST or GraphQL APIs.
• Experience with Git, pull requests, code reviews, debugging, and release workflows.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work cross‑functionally and communicate clearly with both technical and non‑technical partners.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain custom Shopify themes, templates, sections, and interactive components.
• Own features from technical requirements through development, testing, and release.
• Develop and enhance custom promotional features (GWP, bundles, discounts, merchandising).
• Support on-site Shopify search, filtering, and product discovery enhancements.
• Improve site performance, accessibility (WCAG 2.2), and storefront performance.
• Implement and maintain third‑party apps, Shopify APIs, and custom integrations.
• Troubleshoot production issues, participate in code reviews and deployments.
• Explore AI-powered development tools to improve productivity and code quality.
