Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Capital Projects Senior Cost Analyst in Chicago with hybrid work options. The role focuses on cost performance analysis, budget development, forecasting, and reporting for capital infrastructure projects across engineering, procurement, and construction scopes.

Ideal candidates bring 7+ years of project controls experience, strong communication skills, and proficiency in Excel, PowerBI, and SAP to drive accurate cost management and decision support.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with the practical application of project controls.
• 7+ years of experience in cost/project controls roles.
• Post-secondary graduate.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with project teams, clients and vendors.
• Motivation to learn and contribute to project team operations with attention to detail.
• Advanced MS Excel and PowerBI skills; working knowledge of SAP.

Responsibilities

• Implement project controls tools and methodology.
• Support month-end closing, phase gate processes, coordination, production, management, reporting and analysis of cost information.
• Support establishment of project original and approved budgets.
• Work with stakeholders to establish cost baselines.
• Develop project forecasts using estimates, schedules, POs and inputs from stakeholders; discuss basis with Project Managers.
• Monitor and analyze actual costs, compute variances, and document explanations.
• Assemble documentation for project teams and clients.
• Analyze data and build reports to support monitoring and decision making.
