Job summary

Oregon Department of Transportation in Salem seeks a senior leader to shape statewide commercial vehicle safety and enforcement. You will guide strategy, oversee a dispersed team and a sizable budget, and collaborate with state and federal partners.

You’ll drive policy development, manage facilities and budgets, and mentor managers while advancing safety, compliance and organizational performance across Oregon.

Qualifications

• Seven years of supervision, management, or progressively related experience in compliance and regulatory activities.
• Four years of related experience in compliance and regulatory activities and a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• Valid US driver license and acceptable driving record; background checks may be required.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement statewide strategies for enforcing motor carrier tax, registration, size and weight laws.
• Manage Commerce and Compliance Division facilities statewide, including maintenance and equipment operations.
• Formulate and revise commercial vehicle enforcement safety policies and procedures.
• Identify legislative issues and provide input on proposed state and federal laws affecting motor carriers.
• Assist in preparing and administering budgets and oversee financial planning for the division.
• Oversee contracts for facility and roadway repairs and coordinate with procurement on STIP projects.
• Manage federal grants such as MSCAP, including application, disbursement, and subcontractor oversight.
• Mentor and evaluate section managers and staff; set performance expectations.
• Oversee development and delivery of ongoing training programs related to motor carrier enforcement.
• Represent ODOT in high-level discussions with agencies and industry groups; resolve complex issues.
