Job summary

The State of Oregon, Department of Transportation, Commerce and Compliance Division, seeks a Motor Carrier Enforcement Officer 1 in the Blue Mountain Region (Umatilla). You will enforce size, weight, registration and safety laws for commercial vehicles to keep highways safe and compliant.

You will inspect vehicles and drivers, issue citations, prepare reports, and travel across Oregon with possible overnight stays and rotating shifts.

Qualifications

• Two years of public contact/customer service experience involving information about services or explaining regulations.
• Experience or training using computers to retrieve and input data.
• Completion of an Associate's degree will substitute for one year of public contact experience.

Responsibilities

• Inspect vehicles, drivers, records and cargo to ensure compliance with size, weight, registration and safety laws.
• Enforce state and federal regulations through enforcement, education and regulatory action.
• Issue citations and calculate fees accurately.
• Prepare written reports and testify in court as needed.
• Travel throughout the state; possible overnight stays and rotating shifts.
