Job summary

Custom Goods Transportation seeks a Director of Transportation Safety & Compliance to lead fleet safety, DOT compliance, and training across all entities. The role requires coordinating audits, inspections, and program enforcement with focus on HOS, ELDs, and regulatory adherence.

The position involves collaboration with port authorities, senior executives, and expansion of operations beyond California while maintaining comprehensive safety systems and risk management practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in logistics, business, or related field.
• 5–7 years’ intermodal and drayage transportation experience.
• Experience hiring, developing, training and evaluating staff.
• Data gathering on local drayage market pricing, competition and risk models.
• Knowledge of harbor, rail and SSL requirements and related laws.
• Familiarity with Samsara ELD and related solutions.
• Ability to train and ensure Pre-Trip and Post-Trip compliance per EMS policy.
• Strong DOT/FMCSA regulation knowledge including HOS and investigations.
• Knowledge of overweight container activity in LA-LB and Oakland and out-of-gauge requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide transportation safety leadership and compliance guidance across all Custom Goods Transportation entities.
• Implement and enforce fleet safety policies and standards.
• Conduct audits of commercial vehicle and driver documents and DOT compliance inspections.
• Lead safety meetings and driver training programs; address injuries, incidents, and accidents.
• Oversee onboarding, MVR reviews, driver files, background checks, and compliance with DACH and EPN rules.
• Collaborate with harbor management and industry associations to stay current on regulations.
• Expand trucking operations to new states while maintaining DOT compliance and safety standards.
• Direct supervision of driver hours-of-service compliance with ELDs and coordination with operations.
