Job summary

Office of the State Treasurer and Receiver General is seeking a Benefits Calculation Analyst to review, process and administer survivor benefit requests for active and deceased members and their beneficiaries. The role involves counseling, case preparation, and collaboration with the Treasury's departments to ensure accurate benefit calculations.

There is a hybrid work transition, with in-office days weekly and a monthly in-person department meeting.

Qualifications

• Associates degree preferred if other qualifications met.
• 1–3 years experience in benefits, payroll or finance.
• Excellent mathematical skills.
• Analytical, focused, highly organized and detail oriented.
• Demonstrated high level of customer service in high-volume environment.
• Ability to learn retirement plan rules under Mass General Laws Chapter 32.
• Knowledge of MARIS/MSRBeyond benefit calculation software.
• Proficiency with spreadsheets and word processing.

Responsibilities

• Develop understanding of survivor benefits and eligibility criteria.
• Provide counseling to members and beneficiaries by phone or in person.
• Learn day-to-day operations of survivor Benefits Dept., Retirement Options and related payments.
• Prepare correspondence to reconcile active member and retiree accounts.
• Prepare cases for survivor benefits associated with active/retired members.
• With training, prepare cases for Board presentation on benefits or disbursements.
• Learn to calculate creditable service and relate to retirement benefits.
• Identify Administrators and financial institutions to recover payments.
• Recoup overpayments to retirees/survivors.
• Make deposits and issue receipt vouchers for Treasury remittance.
• Verify salaries and service histories with state agencies.
• Develop proficiency with OnBase ECM for document processing.
