Job summary

Office of the State Treasurer and Receiver General in Massachusetts is seeking a Benefits Calculation Analyst to review, process, and administer survivor benefit requests for active and deceased members of the State Employees' Retirement System and their beneficiaries.

The role involves counseling members, learning department operations, and ensuring accurate benefit calculations. Hybrid work is available, with a structured in-office schedule and strict processing deadlines.

Qualifications

• Associates degree preferred for consideration.
• 1–3 years of experience in employee benefits, payroll processing, or finance.
• Excellent mathematical skills.
• Analytical, focused, highly organized and detail oriented.
• Strong customer service skills in a high-volume setting.
• Ability to learn retirement plan rules under Mass General Laws Chapter 32.
• Ability to use MARIS and MSRBeyond benefit calculation software.
• Proficiency with spreadsheets and word processing.
• Self-motivated and able to meet deadlines.
• Work independently or as part of a team.
• Experience in retirement or related employee benefits preferred.
• Commitment to strict processing deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Review and process survivor benefit requests and related eligibility.
• Provide phone and in-person counseling to members and beneficiaries.
• Learn day-to-day operations of survivor Benefit Department and related payments.
• Prepare cases for survivor benefits and board presentation.
• Verify salaries and service histories across state agencies and retirement boards.
• Develop skills with OnBase ECM to process documents.
• Recoup overpayments to retirees and survivors.
• Make deposits and prepare receipt vouchers for remittance to the Treasury.
• Coordinate with Administrators, personal Representatives, and financial institutions to recover payments.
