Job summary

Humana is seeking a Referral and Scheduling Coordinator to streamline patient referrals, secure necessary authorizations, and schedule appointments across patients, providers, and insurers in a hybrid role in the Shreveport area.

You will serve as a knowledge resource for referral processes, resolve scheduling and authorization challenges, and support the care coordination team while upholding accuracy, compliance, and compassionate patient interactions.

Qualifications

• Less than 3 years of hands-on healthcare experience in a clinical setting, preferably within the Medicare population.
• Proficient with medical terminology.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Experience with Electronic Medical Records.
• Excellent professional communication abilities, at all levels within the organization and with patients, at all times.
• This role is patient facing and is part of the TB screening program; TB screening will be required if selected.
• Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences.
• Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare or Business Administration preferred.
• Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding preferred.
• Referral experience preferred.
• Medical Assistant or related certifications preferred.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate patient referrals and obtain necessary authorizations.
• Schedule appointments and manage communication between patients, providers, specialists and insurers.
• Resolve complex scheduling and authorization issues.
• Serve as a subject matter expert for referral and scheduling processes.
• Provide guidance to team members and ensure accuracy, compliance, and high-quality patient experiences.
• Travel to the Shreveport area at least three times per week.
