Job summary

The Department of Rail and Public Transportation seeks an Engineering Manager to lead the newly created Safety and Design division, overseeing state safety oversight for a light rail system and managing engineering design and construction activities for rail and transit projects funded by Virginia. The hybrid role is based in Richmond or Alexandria and reports to the Chief of Safety and Design.

Key qualifications include Virginia PE licensure, a civil engineering degree with transportation

Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in Virginia.
• Degree in civil engineering or closely related engineering discipline with transportation engineering experience.
• Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles applicable to roadway, transit, railroad, and multimodal infrastructure.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects and communicate technical issues to diverse audiences.
• Experience managing A/E and construction management consultants and leading engineering staff.
• Experience developing project cost estimates, schedules, and validating project readiness.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Safety and Design division and oversee state safety oversight for a light rail system.
• Manage engineering design and construction activities for rail and transit projects funded by Virginia.
• Supervise engineering staff and coordinate with A/E and CM consultants.
• Oversee professional services contracting and ensure project readiness and milestones are met.
