Job summary

VHB seeks a Track Engineering Technical Lead to guide senior engineers on track design and construction for rail/transit projects. You will lead design across a diverse portfolio, mentor junior staff, and coordinate with signals, civil, structures, and utilities teams.

Based on experience, you will drive technical direction, review submittals, and support project controls. The role combines leadership, technical excellence, and client-facing collaboration in a growing Transit & Rail practice.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Civil Engineering, Railway Engineering, or related field (M.S. preferred).
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and design oversight for trackwork construction, rehabilitation, and capital improvement projects across rail and transit programs.
• Plan and coordinate construction sequencing, WBS, track access, possession plans, and outage windows with rail operations teams.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless integration of track systems.
• Manage interface points including track geometry verification and signaling/ train control cutovers.
• Implement QA/QC programs including ITPs and geometry acceptance testing.
• Review contractor submittals, RFIs, material approvals, nonconformance reports, and construction documentation.
• Support project controls and delivery including schedule, cost tracking, risk management, and change management.
• Provide technical direction to contractors, inspectors, and project teams; resolve field issues and support claims resolution.
• Lead testing and commissioning activities, including track geometry acceptance and integration with signal systems.
• Represent VHB in client and regulator meetings; present technical recommendations and updates.
• Stay current with emerging track design practices, materials, and technologies.
