Job summary

Gemini is seeking a Principal Software Engineer (Product) to set the technical direction for the customer-facing platform that powers onboarding, compliance, and support for millions of users. You’ll shape patterns and governance for AI-assisted development, mentor leaders, and drive high-impact initiatives across the company.

You’ll operate across backend, web, and mobile, but your leverage comes from setting direction, not only coding.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of software engineering experience building and operating complex production systems at scale.
• Track record of accountable architecture and design for company-level initiatives across multiple teams.
• Fluency in backend plus web/mobile and comfort going deep where needed.
• Proficiency in typed languages (TypeScript, Java, Go) and JS/TS on web/mobile.
• Experience with consumer-facing applications and strong product/UX sensibility.
• Familiarity with AI coding tools and agentic development practices.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical vision and architecture for the customer-facing platform at scale.
• Drive architectural decisions, reviews, and cross-org coordination; lead demos and direction.
• Own cross-org programs from concept to production and long-term operation.
• Identify strategic tech directions and tie bets to company objectives.
• Mentor engineers and leaders; drive cross-domain initiatives and talent growth.
• Enhance security, reliability, and quality across the organization; debug complex systems.
