Job summary

Kforce Inc seeks an experienced Accounting Manager - Payroll & Compliance in Newark, NJ to lead payroll operations across salaried, hourly, and union employees. You will own payroll accounting, controls, and compliance initiatives in a high-volume environment.

The role partners with HR and Finance, drives process improvements and automation, oversees journal entries and reconciliations, and supports month-end close.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
• CPP designation is a plus.
• 5+ years of progressive payroll management and payroll accounting experience.
• Leadership experience supervising payroll or accounting staff.
• Strong knowledge of payroll accounting, G/L reconciliations, payroll tax regulations.
• Experience with union payroll processing and multiple employee classifications.
• Experience partnering with HR on benefits administration, payroll audits, and compliance.
• Advanced proficiency with payroll systems, ERP platforms, and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Oversee weekly and bi-weekly payrolls for salaried, hourly, and union employees.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations and wage laws.
• Review payroll registers, deductions, tax withholdings, and disbursements for accuracy.
• Maintain payroll procedures and internal controls for accuracy and efficiency.
• Prepare and post payroll-related journal entries and labor allocations.
• Oversee monthly reconciliations of payroll, tax, and benefit accounts.
• Investigate payroll variances and discrepancies affecting financial reporting.
• Support month-end and year-end close activities related to payroll and benefits.
