Job summary

Systems Engineering, based in Portland, Maine, is seeking a Network Engineer II for a hybrid role serving northern New England clients. The role focuses on implementing, maintaining, and supporting networking, security, and collaboration solutions for small to mid-sized businesses.

The ideal candidate has strong networking and firewall skills, a customer-service mindset, and the ability to work independently or with a team.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in a technical field or an equivalent combination of education, certifications, and relevant experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of professional technology experience, including in a managed service-based environment.
• Current technical certifications from Cisco, such as CCNA or CCNP, and/or Fortinet, such as NSE 4 or NSE 7, are strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement, manage, troubleshoot, and support network infrastructure across client environments.
• Partner with clients, vendors, and internal teams to deliver effective technology solutions and successful client outcomes.
• Develop Systems Engineering standards, technical guidelines, and best practices, and participate in corrective actions when needed.
• Create and maintain accurate, comprehensive network and technical documentation.
• Partner with account managers to assess client needs and design, refine, and present technology proposals to clients and prospective clients.
• Serve as a subject matter resource in one or more assigned technologies.
• Provide technical guidance to network administrators, LAN and WAN engineers, account managers, and other internal stakeholders within assigned areas of expertise.
• Maintain timely and accurate project documentation and time entries in support of effective client service and project management.
• Contribute to the development of internal methodologies, templates, and best practices that enhance service delivery and client outcomes.
• Participate in the 24x7 on-call support rotation.
• Participate in after-hours project implementation.
