Placements24 is partnering with a major mining client to recruit a Specialist Electrical Maintenance Engineer for Welkom. The role combines hands-on maintenance leadership with remote planning and reporting, requiring extensive experience in heavy industrial electrical systems and safety-compliant practices.

You will develop maintenance plans, troubleshoot complex faults, and supervise technicians while coordinating with production and engineering teams for optimal equipment performance.

Qualifications

• National Diploma or B.Tech in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current).
• 8+ years of electrical maintenance experience in mining/heavy industry.
• Strong knowledge of mining electrical equipment (crushers, conveyors, winders, ventilation).
• Proficiency in troubleshooting AC/DC motors, transformers, switchgear, and control systems.
• Experience with PLCs and VSDs.
• Valid Electrician Trade Test certificate.
• Knowledge of mining safety regulations.
• Analytical and problem-solving with methodical diagnostics.
• Leadership and team management capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement electrical maintenance plans and schedules for all plant equipment and systems.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical faults to minimize production impact.
• Perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and corrective actions on HV/LV systems, motors, generators, and control panels.
• Supervise maintenance technicians with safety and quality adherence.
• Manage spare parts inventory and ensure availability of critical components.
• Analyze maintenance data to identify trends and areas for reliability improvements.
• Prepare detailed maintenance reports, work orders, and equipment history logs.
• Collaborate with production and engineering to optimize equipment performance and upgrades.
• Participate in on-call rotations for emergency maintenance.
