Placements24 is seeking an Electrical Maintenance Engineer for mining operations near Welkom, Free State. The role focuses on developing maintenance strategies, diagnosing complex electrical issues, and leading a team of technicians on-site.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience in industrial electrical maintenance within heavy industry or mining, with strong knowledge of HV/LV systems and safety standards.

Qualifications

• B.Eng. or National Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
• 6+ years in electrical maintenance, mining or heavy industry.
• Experience with high- and low-voltage systems.
• Strong knowledge of motor control, VFDs, and power distribution.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and drawings.
• CMMS experience is essential.
• Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
• Leadership experience managing a technical team.
• Knowledge of mining safety standards.
• Strong communication and reporting skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive electrical maintenance programs for mining equipment and facilities.
• Conduct routine inspections and diagnostics to identify potential electrical faults and predict equipment failures.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, including motors, generators, transformers, switchgear, and control panels.
• Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations and company policies.
• Manage spare parts inventory and procurement for electrical maintenance needs.
• Supervise and mentor a team of electrical maintenance technicians.
• Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, equipment performance, and repair history.
• Collaborate with production and engineering teams to minimize operational disruptions.
• Participate in root cause analysis of electrical failures and implement corrective actions.
• Oversee electrical upgrade projects and ensure smooth integration of new equipment.
