Placements24 is seeking a Mechanical Systems Engineer for a major mining operation near Welkom, Free State. This hybrid role combines on-site oversight with remote analysis and reporting to optimize performance of heavy machinery and processing equipment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline.
• Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering, preferably mining/heavy industrial.
• In-depth knowledge of heavy mining equipment, material handling systems, and industrial machinery.
• Proficiency in CAD software for design and analysis, as well as simulation tools.
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and materials science as applied to industrial systems.
• Experience developing and managing preventative maintenance programs.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team with stakeholders.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Oversee design, installation, operation, and maintenance of mechanical systems (crushers, conveyors, pumps, ventilation).
• Conduct inspections and analyses to identify failures and improvements.
• Develop and implement preventive and corrective maintenance strategies to maximize uptime.

About the Role

Our client, a major mining operation near Welkom, Free State , is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Systems Engineer to join their dedicated team. This role is critical for ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of the vast array of heavy machinery and processing equipment used in mining operations. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining mechanical systems, as well as diagnosing and resolving complex engineering challenges. This hybrid role requires a combination of on-site presence for hands-on work and oversight, and remote capabilities for analysis and reporting. The successful candidate will possess a strong background in mechanical engineering, extensive experience with heavy industrial equipment, and a proactive approach to optimizing operational performance in a demanding environment. Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of complex mechanical systems, including crushers, conveyor belts, pumps, and ventilation systems.
• Conduct thorough inspections and diagnostic analyses of mining equipment to identify potential failures and areas for improvement.
• Develop and implement robust preventative and corrective maintenance strategies to maximize equipment uptime and minimize operational disruptions.
• Analyze equipment performance data, generating reports and recommendations for enhancements and upgrades.
