Job summary

Placements24 is assisting a prominent mining client in recruiting a Senior Mining Engineer specializing in Planning and Design for Welkom, Free State. You will develop long-term mine plans and design layouts in collaboration with geologists and surveyors to translate data into practical plans.

The role requires a minimum of 7 years in mine planning, strong software proficiency, and knowledge of SA regulations.

Qualifications

• BSc or BEng in Mining Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Minimum 7 years in mine planning and design, with a focus on underground operations.
• Proficiency in Deswik, Vulcan, Strumap and AutoCAD.
• Strong understanding of ventilation, ground control and blasting.
• Experience with economic modeling and feasibility studies.
• Excellent communication and multidisciplinary teamwork abilities.
• Knowledge of South African mining regulations and best practices.
• Willingness to work in a hybrid schedule based in or near Welkom.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain long-term and short-term mine plans for open-pit or underground operations.
• Design mine layouts, haul roads, ventilation systems and other infrastructure.
• Plan drilling, blasting and material handling to optimize production and costs.
• Conduct mineability studies, geotechnical assessments and economic evaluations.
• Use Deswik, Vulcan and AutoCAD for design and simulation.
• Collaborate with geology and surveying teams to ensure accurate models.
• Provide technical support to mine operations and ensure compliance with regs.
• Prepare technical reports and documentation for stakeholders.
• Identify opportunities for innovation and efficiency in planning.
