Job summary

The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking a Work Zone Safety Engineer (Civil Engineer V) to lead statewide work zone safety and mobility initiatives across public highways in Illinois.

Responsibilities include developing policies, reviewing traffic-control plans, and delivering statewide training. Requires five years in civil engineering and IL licensure as PE or Structural Engineer; hybrid in-office schedule with travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois or a Licensed Structural Engineer in Illinois.
• Five years of experience in civil engineering.
• Ability to direct policies, procedures and standards for work zone safety and mobility.

Responsibilities

• Direct and administer statewide work zone safety and mobility programs.
• Review and approve transportation management plans submitted by districts.
• Provide statewide training related to work zone safety and mobility.
• Oversee updates to the Traffic Control Field Manual and related policies.
• Coordinate with staff to ensure compliance with federal work zone requirements.
