Job summary

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) seeks a Traffic Systems Engineer (Civil Engineer V) to lead statewide traffic signal coordination, timing, and interconnection projects. The role requires professional engineering licensure in Illinois and at least five years of civil engineering experience, with ability to travel statewide as needed.

Responsibilities

Directs, supervises, motivates, coordinates, and trains subordinate personnel to accomplish goals.
Keeps abreast of changing traffic signal systems technology and policies.
Develops traffic signal optimization policies, design procedures, and specifications.
Directs the statewide Traffic Signal Coordination and Timing (SCAT) Program with district offices.
Directs annual inspections and replacements for state highways and related structures.
Reviews and approves traffic signal system plans for contract lettings.
Ensures availability and use of advanced traffic signal software by regions and local agencies.
Trains personnel and develops training materials for timing and operations of interconnected systems.
