Job summary

The City of Fort Worth is seeking a Risk Manager in the Human Resources Department to oversee the workers’ compensation and return-to-work programs for more than 9,000 lives, including first responders. The role requires strategic program oversight, timely claims management, and alignment with financial and regulatory guidelines.

This hybrid position emphasizes responsive, real-time handling of high-profile claims, vendor management, and collaboration with city leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in risk management or related field.
• Five years of risk management experience focused on workers’ compensation.
• Direct experience in vendor management and contract measurement.
• Effective public speaker with the ability to present to the public and city leadership.
• Two years of administrative and supervisory responsibility.
• Valid Texas Driver’s License.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain a Texas Workers’ Compensation adjusting license within six months.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the workers’ compensation program under the self-insurance model.
• Oversee third-party administrator files and assist with settlement strategies.
• Manage claims from inception to resolution and coordinate with TPAs.
• Monitor claims activity and provide guidance to optimize the program.
• Attend Benefit Review Conferences and Contested Case Hearings with the City’s legal team.
• Develop training and communications for employees and management on workers’ compensation.
