Job summary

Contra Costa County is seeking a Risk Manager for the Workers’ Compensation Program Division to coordinate claims and manage the self-insured program, reporting to the County Director of Risk Management-Exempt.

The role requires leadership of the Workers’ Compensation staff, expertise in California workers’ compensation statutes, and collaboration with multiple county departments to ensure compliance and efficient operations.

Qualifications

• Possession of California Self-Insurance Administrator’s Certificate.
• Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, finance, or a closely related field.
• Four (4) years of professional level experience with workers’ compensation claims management, with at least two (2) years in a supervisory capacity.

Responsibilities

• Overseeing the self-insured and self-administered Workers’ Compensation Program for the County and special districts.
• Supervising and directing the activities of Workers’ Compensation Program staff on the investigation and adjustment of Workers’ Compensation claims.
• Overseeing the administration of the County’s Occupational Return to Work Program.
• Interpreting California Code and laws applicable to Workers’ Compensation benefits and staying current on legislation.
