Job summary

UW School of Medicine Dean’s Office is seeking a Systems Engineer to own and evolve infrastructure across on‑premises and hybrid cloud environments. You will translate architectural direction into production-ready solutions, work with Windows Server, Linux, storage, and networking, and drive automation and operational resilience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• At least three years of hands-on experience in systems administration or infrastructure engineering at a mid-level.
• Foundational working knowledge of virtualization platforms (VMware or equivalent).
• Solid experience with Windows Server (AD, DNS, Group Policy) and basic networking (TCP/IP, VLANs).
• Working knowledge of SAN/iSCSI storage concepts and backup/recovery tools.
• Comfort with Linux command-line and scripting (PowerShell or Python).
• Experience with monitoring/logging platforms (SCOM, Splunk, Azure Monitor) and incident response.

Responsibilities

• Implement, maintain, and improve core infrastructure across virtualization, storage, and networks.
• Support Linux systems in hybrid/cloud contexts; perform OS upgrades and hardware refreshes.
• Configure hybrid Azure infrastructure including virtual networks, compute, and platform services.
• Manage identities, RBAC, private endpoints, and connectivity for Azure workloads.
• Ensure Azure governance with Policy, tagging, and cost awareness; evaluate new services.
• Configure hosting for web services, DNS, SSL, and identity integrations; support app teams.
• Implement system hardening, patching, and DR/BC preparedness per security policies.
• Lead infra projects with milestones; perform cross-system troubleshooting.
• Develop automation scripts (PowerShell/Python) for provisioning, backups, and certs lifecycles.
• Maintain and improve monitoring, alerting, and logging platforms (SCOM, Splunk, Azure Monitor).
• Stay updated on Azure, Linux, automation, and security; pursue professional growth.
