Job summary

The University of Washington's School of Medicine Dean's Office is seeking a Systems Engineer, Infrastructure and Operations, to drive infrastructure lifecycle ownership across on-premises and hybrid cloud environments. You will act as a hands-on engineering resource delivering production-ready solutions, including automation, security, and cross-team collaboration.

Responsibilities include implementing core infrastructure, managing Windows and Linux systems, and enabling platform services

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/IT or related field.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience in systems administration or infrastructure engineering.
• Experience with virtualization platforms (VMware or equivalent).
• Experience with Windows Server environments and networking fundamentals.
• Experience with scripting in production environments (PowerShell preferred).
• Experience with monitoring/logging platforms (SCOM, Splunk, Azure Monitor).
• Experience with backup and recovery operations.

Responsibilities

• Implement, maintain, and improve core infrastructure systems across virtualization, storage, network, and Windows Server environments.
• Support Linux systems in hybrid and cloud contexts; perform OS upgrades and hardware refresh.
• Monitor system health, troubleshoot cross-layer issues, and ensure alignment with security policies.
• Configure and support hybrid Azure infrastructure including networking, compute, and platform services.
• Configure identity, access, and connectivity for Azure workloads; RBAC and private endpoints.
• Collaborate with development and data teams on workload placement, networking, and system integration.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts to reduce manual tasks across provisioning and backups.
• Maintain monitoring, alerting, and logging platforms; analyze performance trends to preempt issues.
