Job summary

McMillen, Inc. is seeking a Geotechnical Project Engineer to support civil design for dams, embankments, fish passage facilities, and water resources projects.

The role includes geotechnical investigations, modeling, and reporting under project managers, with in-person or hybrid work options. Requirements include a Bachelor's in Geotechnical/Geological/Civil Engineering, PE eligibility, and minimum 4 years of field experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical, Geological, or Civil Engineering required. A Master's degree asset but not required.
  • Licensed or eligible to obtain P.E. certification
  • Hands-on fieldwork experience
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience. Experience with subsurface geotechnical investigations for dam projects is a plus
  • Proficiency in field logging, classification, in situ and laboratory testing of soil and rock
  • Familiarity with Industry and Agency Design Codes and Standards is preferred
  • Proficiency in interpreting and communicating design intent from contract documents
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks independently and prioritize effectively
  • Flexibility to travel up to 25%
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute subsurface geotechnical investigations including subcontractor coordination, sampling, and lab testing schedules
  • Perform geotechnical modeling and analysis using standard software (Slide2, RS2, Settle3, LPILE, APILE, GROUP)
  • Provide design recommendations for foundations, slopes, retaining walls, and embankments
  • Perform dam safety inspections for existing dams
  • Develop project-specific design criteria using relevant codes and jurisdictional requirements
  • Collect, review, and organize historical project data (drawings, reports, specs)
  • Prepare geotechnical data and design reports for multidisciplinary projects
  • Communicate with multidisciplinary teams to interpret geotechnical conditions and implications
  • Collaborate with Design Technology staff to prepare and revise drawings
  • Perform construction monitoring and QA on active sites (subgrade reviews, pile installation, anchor testing, seepage wall, geomembrane)
