Job summary

McMillen, Inc. is seeking a Geotechnical Project Engineer to support civil design for dams, embankments, fish passage facilities, and other water resources projects.

You will work under project managers, conducting geotechnical investigations, modeling, and reporting. This role offers in-person or hybrid work, requires a bachelor’s degree in geotechnical/geological/civil engineering, PE licensure or eligibility, and a minimum of 4 years’ experience, with up to 25% travel.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical, Geological, or Civil Engineering required.
  • Licensed or eligible to obtain P.E. certification.
  • Hands-on fieldwork experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience.
  • Proficiency in field logging, classification, in situ and laboratory testing of soil and rock.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute subsurface geotechnical investigations and sampling.
  • Perform geotechnical modeling and analysis using industry-standard software.
  • Provide design recommendations for foundations, slopes, and embankments.
  • Conduct dam safety inspections for existing dams.
  • Develop project-specific design criteria per codes and standards.
  • Review and organize historical project data and drawings.
  • Prepare geotechnical data and design reports for multidisciplinary projects.
  • Communicate with engineering teams on geotechnical implications.
  • Collaborate with drafting staff to prepare project drawings.
  • Perform construction monitoring and quality assurance on active sites.
