Job summary

Hippo Insurance in Austin, TX is seeking an experienced General Liability Claims Adjuster I (Commercial Lines) to manage a diverse caseload across jurisdictions. You will investigate, evaluate, and resolve claims, conduct coverage analyses, and work with legal counsel.

A multi-state license and strong negotiation skills are essential. The role reports to the Director, TPA Claims and offers a hybrid work model in Austin or Dallas, with opportunities for growth and a commitment to service

Qualifications

• Minimum 2+ years of general liability/commercial lines claims adjusting experience.
• Active multi-state adjuster licenses or ability to obtain reciprocal licenses quickly.
• Strong understanding of liability law, tort principles, and policy coverage interpretation.
• Proven track record of managing complex and/or litigated claims to resolution.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
• Commitment to delivering excellent service with empathy for claimants.
• Proficiency with claims management software and MS Office.
• Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent industry experience considered.
• Designations (AIC/CPCU/SCLA) preferred.
• Experience with construction, retail, hospitality or products liability exposures preferred.
• Experience with TPAs or self-insured programs preferred.
• Bilingual candidates are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, evaluate, and resolve general liability claims across multiple jurisdictions.
• Conduct coverage analysis applying policy terms and exclusions.
• Interview claimants, witnesses, and insureds; gather statements and docs.
• Partner with legal counsel, defense attorneys, and experts on litigated claims.
• Set and maintain case reserves per guidelines and state regs.
• Negotiate settlements with claimants, attorneys, and third parties.
• Ensure compliance with unfair claims practices acts and licensing in all jurisdictions.
• Manage claim files from first notice to resolution, including subrogation.
• Maintain timely documentation in the claims system.
• Stay current on evolving state regs, case law, and liability trends.
• Deliver exceptional service with empathy and transparency at every touchpoint.
• Provide status updates to keep all parties informed.
