Job summary

Spire Inc. is seeking an Engineer I, Gas in Birmingham, AL to assist the Engineering Manager and Field Operations with designing and estimating construction projects for replacing existing natural gas facilities and building new ones.

You will coordinate with GIS Analysts, Environmental Engineering, and other teams to ensure compliant, efficient project delivery. The role requires 0–2 years of engineering experience, ABET-accredited degree, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from ABET-accredited school required.
• Engineering in Training certificate preferred.
• Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Engineering Manager and Field Operations in designing and estimating construction projects for gas facilities.
• Coordinate designs with GIS Analysts, Environmental Engineering, System Planning, Right of Way, Pipeline Safety and Compliance, Field Operations, and outside firms.
• Prepare paperwork related to gas main and service work, including utility agreements and other documents.
• Complete engineering designs and cost estimates using GIS for all types of main and service work.
• Attend utility meetings and pre-construction meetings to negotiate with representatives from engineering firms and municipalities to minimize impact and disruption.
• Attend site meetings to resolve issues or conflicts with facilities and proposed improvements.
