Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to join our team in a hybrid role based in the United States. You will develop fire protection designs and serve as QFPE on federal projects, focusing on life safety, fire suppression, and alarm systems.

You will review designs for NFPA/UFC compliance, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with sales to respond to RFPs, while supporting projects from multiple offices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Architectural or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
• PE license required; travel may be required.
• 7 years of related experience in fire protection or similar fields.
• Knowledge of NFPA, UFC and local regulations; strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop fire protection designs including water supply, hydrants and fire alarm systems.
• Act as QFPE for federal projects, ensuring life safety compliance.
• Review drafts for NFPA/UFC compliance and sign off on designs.
• Mentor junior staff and support proposal efforts with sales on RFPs.
• Collaborate across offices to meet client requirements and project deadlines.
• Perform site assessments and ensure designs meet industry standards.
