Job summary

Virginia Tech is seeking an End User Support and Lab Operations Specialist to provide front-line IT support for the College of Architecture, Arts, and Design labs and to perform hands-on technical work for lab computers.

The role involves troubleshooting across Windows, macOS, and Linux, coordinating with the lab operations lead, and documenting procedures. Onboarding includes an onsite focus, with up to one day of remote work per week after initial training.

Qualifications

• Experience providing technical support to end users in person, by phone, by email, or through a ticketing system.
• Experience with Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems.
• Experience installing, configuring, operating, and troubleshooting computer hardware, software, and peripherals.
• Ability to manage multiple issues and prioritize work based on urgency and user impact.
• Strong interpersonal, customer-support, verbal-communication, and technical-writing skills tailored to the intended audience.
• Ability to work independently, follow documented procedures, and coordinate effectively with other technical staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide front-line technical support to faculty, staff, and students for the College of Architecture, Arts, and Design labs.
• Perform hands-on deployment, troubleshooting, and maintenance of lab computers and peripherals.
• Document processes, maintain lab standards, and contribute to refresh plans.
• Coordinate with lab operations lead to align priorities and ensure labs run smoothly.
