Job summary

Hanover Insurance Group, Inc. seeks a Director of Marine Underwriting Performance to lead the Marine underwriting function across assigned territories. This full-time, exempt role is hybrid and located on the East Coast.

You will mentor underwriters, drive performance, manage renewal processes, and partner with distribution and operations to optimize profitability and customer outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Professional designations preferred.
• 10+ years of experience with Specialty/Marine accounts driving profitable new and renewal business.
• Proven experience driving agency relationships resulting in profitable new business and renewal accounts.
• Effective problem solver who analyzes information to propose solutions.
• Open to new and different ways of thinking as a change advocate.
• Excellent communication skills with strong written, verbal and presentation capabilities.
• Ability to collaborate and influence across multiple levels of the organization.
• High degree of business, insurance and marketplace knowledge.
• Ability to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategies based on near- and long-term priorities and underwriting results.
• Identify enhanced sell and cross-sell opportunities to drive growth within other lines and segments.
• Collaborate with Specialty distribution and local branch partners.
• Partner with leadership to develop and drive regional business strategy.
• Decipher complex accounts and apply underwriting principles for team understanding.
• Assess training needs and conduct sessions to raise team capabilities.
• Manage UW referrals to meet productivity targets and allocate resources.
• Assess underwriting skills and plan to increase technical capabilities.
• Drive profit improvement and balance with retention using tools and reports.
