Job summary

LeadingAge seeks a Senior Vice President, Membership & State Relations in Washington, DC to lead membership growth, retention, and state partner collaboration. The role reports to the President & CEO and guides a national team toward annual targets in a hybrid work model.

The position emphasizes relationship building with state partners and MSOs, data-driven decision making, and cross-functional leadership to deliver value to members and advance policy priorities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; advanced degree preferred.
• Fifteen or more years of progressively responsible experience, including a senior leadership role with a focus on membership.
• Direct experience in aging services or related field (long-term care, healthcare, senior housing, policy).
• Experience leading distributed or remote teams and driving performance across locations.
• Experience managing senior-level external relationships with multi-site organizations and government officials.
• Strong understanding of association management and how national/state bodies collaborate.
• Excellent oral and written communication; able to represent LeadingAge at events.
• Working knowledge of CRM and membership databases, virtual tools, and data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Membership & State Relations team.
• Set targets for state engagement, membership growth and retention; track progress.
• Collaborate with national teams to align state and member activities.
• Grow member engagement and assess value through metrics.
• Coordinate with state partners to maximize member value.
• Report membership performance to senior leadership and Board.
• Collaborate across policy, education, research, programs, and IT.
