Job summary

Zurich North America is hiring an Underwriter or Underwriting Specialist for Construction Property to join the Specialties Construction team in Chicago or Minneapolis with hybrid work flexibility. The role handles complex Builders Risk and Fixed Property/Inland Marine accounts and acts as a SME within the team.

You will develop underwriting rules, manage referrals, and build broker relationships to support retention and growth in the Midwest, with travel and extended hours as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 1+ years in underwriting or market-facing area (or related paths)
• Preferred Bachelor0s Degree and construction/Property experience is a plus
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and underwriting tools

Responsibilities

• Administer and monitor underwriting rules, guidelines, and regulations
• Develop and maintain referrals with line of business representatives
• Provide guidance to lower level associates when needed
• Build relationships with agents and brokers to support retention and growth
• Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities
• Qualify accounts for appetite and business opportunities
• Make broker/customer calls with planned purpose
• Negotiate terms and close deals
• Cross-sell lines of business to increase density
• Engage in target account processes 90–120 days before effective date
• Serve as Zurich contact for assigned target accounts
• Understand pricing using underwriting tools and analyze risk
• Stay visible in the marketplace and maintain client engagement
