Job summary

Colorado School of Mines seeks an Associate Director of Research Administration for Proposal and Contracting Services to lead the Pre-Award team, oversee proposal reviews, and ensure compliance with federal regulations and sponsor requirements. The role includes training, SOP development, and collaboration on process improvements.

The position supports hybrid work in Colorado, with on-campus presence required three days per week.

Qualifications

• Baccalaureate degree in business or related field.
• Significant (10-year minimum) experience in sponsored project administration.
• Significant and progressive experience in sponsored project proposal and contract management; working knowledge of federal knowledge and other pertinent external regulations.
• Familiarity with Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property contract negotiations.
• Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
• Problem solving and analysis skills to optimize independent decisions.
• Demonstrated customer service skills, the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
• Significant experience (5-year minimum) in supervising, managing and training professional staff.
• Experience with sponsored project information and submission systems, both at the institutional level and federal/sponsor level.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Pre-Award team, including supervision and performance management.
• Develop and maintain SOPs for Pre-Award functions and provide training materials.
• Ensure compliance with federal regs, sponsor requirements and Mines policies.
• Oversee proposal review, cost negotiation with sponsors, and policy justification.
• Collaborate on technology to streamline the proposal process and related projects.
• Manage the ORA Contracting unit and ensure efficient contracting processes.
