Job summary

The Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO seeks a Contracts Manager within the Office of Research Administration. You will lead the Research & Sponsored Contracts team, oversee interpretation of federal and state regulations, negotiate sponsor agreements, and coordinate with faculty and external partners to ensure compliant, timely execution.

This role emphasizes leadership, data-driven decision making, and clear communication across campus, sponsors, and legal counsel, with hybrid on-site

Qualifications

• Eight years of research administration contracting experience.
• Five years experience in supervising, managing and training administrative and professional staff.
• Experience with Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property negotiations.
• Working knowledge of federal and state regulations regarding research and tech transfer.
• Excellent communication skills including ability to communicate complex contracting issues to faculty, staff and industry partners.
• Problem solving and analysis skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Research & Sponsored Contracts unit (4-8 FTE) and hire/evaluate staff.
• Develop and maintain policies and procedures for the contracting unit.
• Provide regulatory interpretation and negotiate sponsored projects and IP agreements.
• Review, draft, and manage sponsored research agreements and subcontracts.
• Coordinate with General Counsel and IP teams on templates and terms.
• Oversee data repository accuracy and contract management software.
• Communicate policy and process changes to faculty and campus stakeholders.
• Offer formal and informal training to faculty and staff on contracts and sponsor rules.
