Job summary

Colorado School of Mines seeks an Associate Director for the Office of Research Administration to lead post-award financial stewardship, reporting, and compliance for sponsored research. The role partners with faculty to optimize funding, ensure policy alignment, and implement efficient processes leveraging technology.

The position requires deep GAAP knowledge, 10 years of financial leadership, and strong team-building in a university setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or related field.
• 10 years progressive experience in accounting/financial management with GAAP knowledge.
• 5+ years supervising professional staff (hiring, onboarding, training, evaluation).
• 5+ years in sponsored project financial administration.
• Working knowledge of OMB Circulars and other external regulations.
• Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
• Problem solving and analytical abilities; able to make independent decisions.
• Experience with enterprise financial systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead the ORA Post Award team and oversee strategic financial management of sponsored projects.
• Oversee reconciliations, cash flow, reporting, and compliance for sponsored accounts.
• Develop SOPs and staff training; ensure data integrity in Mines’ financial system.
• Coordinate audits and responses; provide analytics to senior leadership.
