Job summary

Hopelink in Redmond, WA seeks an Assistant Controller to lead day-to-day accounting, manage the accounting team, and ensure timely close and strong internal controls. The role collaborates with the Controller and Grants Team to reflect all financial activity accurately in Hopelink's records.

The ideal candidate has nonprofit accounting experience, GAAP expertise, and proven staff leadership, with a Bachelor's in accounting or related field and CPA/CMA preferred.

Qualifications

• Five years of progressively responsible accounting experience including GL, journal entries, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting.
• Strong knowledge and practical application of GAAP.
• Nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred; knowledge of federal grant requirements helpful.
• Experience supervising, coaching, and providing technical leadership to accounting staff.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; experience with MIP Fund Accounting and Microix workflow models.

Responsibilities

• Manage and monitor the monthly accounting calendar, identifying deadlines and dependencies to ensure timely accounting activities.
• Prepare and post recurring, complex journal entries and review entries prepared by staff.
• Prepare balance sheet and GL reconciliations, resolve reconciling items, and review staff work.
• Maintain broad oversight of GL integrity, ensuring accuracy and GAAP compliance.
• Research and analyze unusual accounting issues and recommend treatment with Controller input.
• Support the Controller in preparing monthly/annual financial statements and audits.
• Collaborate with Grants Team to ensure grant-related activity is recorded and reconciled to the GL.
