Job summary

Generation Hope in Washington, DC is seeking a Controller to manage all day-to-day finance, fund accounting, and financial reporting for a growing nonprofit with a multi-million-dollar budget. You will ensure GAAP compliance, supervise accounting functions, oversee grant tracking and external reporting, and partner with program teams to translate operations into annual budgets.

CPA preferred; 7+ years nonprofit finance experience required. Location: Washington, DC (Hybrid).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• CPA designation strongly preferred.
• 7+ years of progressive financial management, with 3+ years in a growing nonprofit.
• Deep familiarity with GAAP, nonprofit fund tracking, and multi-state compliance.
• Experience with QuickBooks, Bill.com, or similar nonprofit platforms.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily accounting functions and month-end/ year-end closes.
• Manage grant accounting, fund tracking, and donor reporting.
• Lead cash flow planning to support program initiatives.
• Collaborate with program teams to develop annual budgets and variances.
• Direct internal controls, audits, and IRS/State filings.
