Job summary

University of Michigan-Flint School of Management is seeking a full-time Academic Advisor/Counselor Associate/Intermediate to manage a student caseload, advise on degree requirements, and support recruitment and retention efforts. This hybrid role reports to the CASE Director of Student Services and emphasizes collaboration with campus partners to ensure student success.

The position involves advising, program planning, and active engagement with students facing academic or financial challenges

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related profession or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
• Two or more years of relevant experience working with students in an academic setting.
• Understanding of data assessment and quality improvement techniques.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Knowledge of Web Focus, Banner, SIS, and Degree Works.

Responsibilities

• Provides academic advising services to current students, potential majors, minors, and others; utilizes confidential information and conducts confidential conversations to provide these services.
• Advises students on course selection and distribution requirements; provides assistance to students to ensure their academic, personal and professional success.
• Assists with retention and outreach programs using data management and assessment techniques.
• Participates in prospective-student recruitment and follows up on referrals to connect students with resources and support services.
• Maintains close collaboration with departmental advisors and Student Success Center staff to ensure seamless advising across campus.
