Job description

HVAC Tech I/II - (Multiple positions available)

This role involves performing skilled technical work in installing, maintaining, modifying, repairing, and removing HVAC systems, devices, and related controls.

Certifications
  • Universal EPA certification.
  • HVAC Technician license (required for HVAC Tech II level).
Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot and repair HVAC equipment to ensure efficient day‑to‑day operation.
  • Install, inspect, and repair new and existing HVAC systems at university‑owned properties.
  • Repair, install, and troubleshoot all HVAC control systems.
  • Inspect and test high‑ and low‑pressure refrigerant systems to locate and diagnose faults.
  • Perform seasonal overhauls when transitioning systems between heating and cooling.
  • Carry out manufacturer‑recommended preventive maintenance and inspections.
  • Provide means of access through walls, floors, and other structures as needed for repairs or new installations.
  • Restore work sites to original condition after completion, including removing tools, materials, and debris, and coordinating cleaning or tile replacement.
  • Operate multimeters, voltmeters, ampmeters, powermeters, electric tracking equipment, frequency counters, AC and DC power supplies.
  • Operate power tools, hand tools, air compressors, jackhammers, backhoes, oxygen‑acetylene torches, soldering/desoldering equipment, multi‑lift, and manifold gauges.
  • Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and repair control devices and wiring within the HVAC primary system; maintain, repair, and modify secondary refrigerant systems including pumps, valves, cooling equipment, and local temperature/pressure controls.
  • Insulate pipes and ductwork and perform weatherization needs as required.
  • Maintain, service, repair, and replace stem traps and other steam‑related equipment.
  • Complete truck and shop inventories as assigned.
  • Clean equipment, shop area, and work site.
  • Comply with federal regulations governing environmental protection, hazardous waste disposal, and the use of refrigerants, chemicals, and materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the needs of Marshall University, including support of other shops/trades.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Universal EPA certification.
  • HVAC Technician license (required for Level II).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in commercial/industrial HVAC (preferred 4 years).
  • HVAC Certificate from a Technical College or completion of HVAC Apprenticeship (preferred).

Salary Range: $33,381 - $50,339, commensurate with qualifications, education, experience, and internal equity. Salary Grade: 3. Time Type: Full‑Time.
