Job summary

University of Vermont is seeking an HVAC Technician to perform skilled installation, maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and related refrigeration equipment. The role requires coordination with supervisors and campus partners, and may involve operating a University vehicle and aerial lift.

HVAC Technician

Posting Summary

Perform highly skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of building heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and controls. Perform highly skilled work in the maintenance and repair of refrigeration equipment to include chillers, freezers, refrigerators, coolers, and related devices. Confer with supervisor/s regarding assigned duties and communicate with University campus partners on requests. Access information utilizing computers. Promote a workplace culture that encourages safety within the shop and in the field. Operate a University vehicle to transport materials, tools, and equipment. May be required to operate an aerial lift.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School diploma, Vermont Type S C3 License and Vermont Natural Gas Installer Certification, or ability to acquire within six months, and three years' experience in HVAC equipment and controls installation, maintenance and repair experience required.
• Refrigerant Recovery Certification required.
• Experience using computers and mobile technology required.
• Valid driver's license or ability to obtain and driver's check required.
• May be required to operate an aerial lift.
• Specific physical requirements may apply based on job functions.
• Must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when performing specific job functions.
• Initial employment contingent upon successful completion of background check and physical screening.

Anticipated Pay Range

$34.00-$37.00/hour

Special Conditions

• A probationary period may be required.
• Occasional evening and/or weekends required (if non-exempt position, may result in overtime).
• This position is ineligible for telework due to the essential functions.
• Background Check required for this position.
• A post-offer pre-employment (POPE test) physical examination is required.
