Job summary

HomeWorks Energy is seeking an HVAC Start Up Technician Apprentice to install and commission HVAC systems, perform basic troubleshooting, and calibrate equipment. You will ensure systems operate efficiently and comply with safety standards during the critical startup phase.

You will work across Massachusetts, with multiple local warehouses and the HQ in Charlestown. The role offers growth toward Service Tech I/II and Service Lead, plus a clear path for advancement and continuous learning.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of an accredited HVAC training program or apprenticeship preferred.
• EPA 608 Certification for refrigerant handling is required.
• NATE certification is a plus.
• 1 year of hands-on HVAC experience with a focus on system start up, commissioning, or installation.
• Strong understanding of HVAC equipment, systems, and control systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform start up testing and commissioning of HVAC equipment including air conditioning, heating systems, boilers, heat pumps, furnaces.
• Troubleshoot and resolve performance issues using diagnostic tools for electrical and mechanical components.
• Explain system operation, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps to customers.
• Document service activities thoroughly and update system documentation for future reference.
• Collaborate with installation teams, project managers, and customer service to meet timelines and customer expectations.
