Responsibilities

Job Description

BHCC is seeking a Program Coordinator to oversee its Massachusetts Clean Energy Center Heat Pump and HVAC Training Network grant, awarded to each public community college in the State. The aim of these grants is to support community colleges in establishing or upgrading HVAC/ Heat Pump training centers and build or scale career pathways in HVAC mechanic and technician occupations, helping the State to meet its goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 50% by 2030.


The Coordinator will report to the Interim Assistant Director of Workforce Trade and Training Programs and will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of this new program. It will launch in early 2027 in Chelsea, Massachusetts, across the street from the College’s satellite campus. The Project Coordinator will be an active member of BHCC’s dynamic Workforce Development Division.


Responsibilities


  • Overall responsibility for program, in coordination with the Interim Assistant Director of Workforce Trades and Training Programs.

  • Recruitment and enrollment of students into the program.

  • Monitoring, assisting with retention of students in the program.

  • Scheduling classes for students in the program.

  • Tracks student progress from enrollment through 6 months after program completion. Introduces students to wraparound services, as needed.

  • Recruitment and hiring of program instructors.

  • Manages administrative responsibilities for program.

  • Assist Interim Assistant Director of Workforce Trades and Training Programs with finalizing program curriculum.

  • Work with landlord, BHCC Facilities, and equipment vendor on finalizing training space layout and ensuring that training space is completed by January 2027.

  • Ordering equipment and supplies for training space.

  • Ensures safety and security requirements are met in the training area.

  • Overseeing/maintaining grant budget in coordination with BHCC’s Grants Management Office.

  • Create and maintain partnerships with employers and training providers for participating on advisory board, as guest speakers for program, and as hiring partners to support job placement for students in program.

  • Prepares programs to be EPA 608 accredited and maintain accreditations and certifications requirements, as appropriate to MA standards.

  • Work with Integrated Media and Communications on recruiting materials and program website.

  • Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports for program in coordination with BHCC’s Grants Development Office.

  • Participates in industry events to expand contacts for program.

  • Meet program standards.

  • Provide onsite classroom support, as needed.


Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business Administration, Facilities Management, Engineering or other field related to area of assignment; with three (3) years experience and/or training involving area of assignment, which may include college registration, academic advisement, career development, career experience, training, curriculum development, audio/visual or graphic production, grant administration, budget development, program/project management, event planning, administrative work in an academic environment, or personal computer operations; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Technical Diploma/certifications in HVAC maintenance or closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university *AND* minimum of two years of work experience in a position related to HVAC.

  • Experience in all aspects of the field such is highly desirable: installations, EP 608 and associated licenses, oil burner technician license, and/or plumbing license, refrigeration license.

  • Trades/Technical experience teaching or leading apprentices and junior people is highly desirable.

  • Experience with managing complex budgets.

  • Experience with working with non-native English speakers and low-income adults in a training setting.

  • Must be credentialed or eligible to satisfy all appropriate accrediting agencies and manufacturers' requirements.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, and manage multiple and competing priorities.

  • Knowledge of training practices.

  • Knowledge of the mission of postsecondary technical education.

  • Ability to work and communicate cooperatively with students, faculty, and staff.

  • Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.


Preferred Additional Skills


  • Professional working proficiency (spoken and written) in Spanish.


Additional Information


  • Salary: $65,370- $69,557. (Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining agreement.) Full State benefits.

  • Grade 4: Unit-Professional position

  • Review Date: September 14, 2026

  • This is a grant-funded position that will end on June 30, 2028. Continuation of the position is contingent upon renewal and availability of grant funding.

  • This is an in-person position that will be based at BHCC’s Charlestown campus and will require frequent visits to the training site in Chelsea. Note that BHCC has a shuttle that runs frequently between campuses. Parking is available at both campuses.
