  • Maintain attendance, progress records, and required documentation.
  • Collaborate with Workforce staff and faculty to align with employer needs.
  • Coordinate with employer partners to ensure curriculum relevance and student job placement.

Job description

Berkshire Community College is seeking two HVAC/R and Heat Pump co-instructors. The co-instructors are responsible for the teaching, supervision, and evaluation of students in the Workforce & Community Education training. Classes will take place in our new state-of-the-art HVAC training lab equipped with modern, industry-standard systems providing instructors with the tools to deliver hands-on, experiential learning aligned with current workforce demand. Instructional support, onboarding, and training in program expectations will be provided to support effective teaching. The role focuses on preparing students for entry-level professional roles in the HVAC industry through a mix of classroom lectures and hands-on laboratory.

Pre-planning and exploring the new lab, classroom, and curriculum is anticipated to begin on 11/2/2026 and will require approximately 60 hours. We anticipate teaching will require availability Monday through Friday, approximately 8:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m., during two 16-week program cycles which are anticipated to begin in March 2027. Although scheduling details remain subject to change, applicants should expect a commitment aligned with these hours. Additional duties may occasionally be performed outside of instructional time to support program needs.

The Instructor will:

  • Instruct students on current HVAC technologies, safety, and troubleshooting through lectures and hands-on shop training.
  • Prepare students for industry certifications such as EPA Section 608, A2L, OSHA-10, NATE Ready-to-Work, and NORA.
  • Assess student progress and maintain a safe, professional shop environment.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and revision of curriculum and program policies.
  • Support student recruitment and/or admissions processes as needed.
  • Use instructional technology to enhance learning and communication (e.g., LMS such as Canvas).
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, student progress, and required program documentation.
  • Collaborate with Workforce staff and faculty to ensure alignment with employer and industry needs.
  • Collaborate with employer partners to ensure curriculum relevance, coordinate training opportunities and support student job placement.
