Job summary

Johnson Controls Inc. is seeking an HVAC Mechanical Service Tech Trainee to join our union-backed apprenticeship program. Apprentices will learn from industry professionals while performing on client sites under supervision.

The role includes certified training through the Service Technical Academy, skill development in troubleshooting and customer service, and opportunities for advancement within a collaborative, results-oriented team.

Qualifications

• Member or willing to join United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing & Pipe Fitting Industry in the US/Canada, AFL-CIO.
• 1+ years of industry experience or servicing mechanical HVAC systems.
• Knowledge of mechanical HVAC systems, facilities management systems, site preparation, and peripheral equipment.
• Effective interpersonal skills to represent Johnson Controls to customers and contacts.
• Leadership to support mechanics on non-complex HVAC work on job sites.
• Self-starter with ability to work independently.
• Prioritize safety in all forms.
• Valid driver’s license.
• 1-2 years of trade school or college in a technical emphasis is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Apprentices will be trained and perform on HVAC mechanical equipment and controls on client sites.
• Participate in certified training through the Service Technical Academy.
• Develop skills to troubleshoot and resolve technical and customer needs.
• Keep JCI, contractors, and customers informed of job progress and issues.
• Meet attendance requirements for required Union training in first year.
• Provide recommendations and solutions to improve facility efficiency and upsell where appropriate.
• Prepare quotes to support recommendations and solutions.
